Fragments explores the inner world of displacement

Fragments by Iranian-Canadian composer Siman Shahi, explores the inner world of displacement: the memories that stay, the fears that surface, and the search for meaning and hope after leaving home.

With poetry by Nika Khanjani drawn from conversations with displaced people, it brings these often unseen experiences into music.

From the composer, “For those who know the experience of leaving home, I hope something in this music feels familiar and offers a sense of recognition. Your stories matter and deserve to be heard. For those who haven’t, I hope Fragments opens a door to curiosity, understanding, and to meeting one another with greater compassion.”

Fragments is now available on all major streaming platforms through Redshift Records.

Performed by the Cantabile Chamber Singers and Ton Beau String Quartet, conducted by Cheryll Chung.

Recorded at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts in Kingston, Ontario, through the IMAGINE Incubator Award, with additional support from the Canada Council for the Arts and Ontario Arts Council.
